German Legend

"Mother? How did we learn to speak?"

"From listening to eachother as we grow up. And school, of course."

"No... how did people learn how to speak? We couldn't always, could we?"

She thought for a moment, smiling as she remembered a legend her grandmother had told her when she was young. "When humans were still new to Earth, the dragons taught the eagles how to speak so they could communicate in the sky. When humans were having trouble choosing a language, the eagles taught a group of people how to speak like the dragons had done for them."

"Dragons aren't real. Eagles don't talk, either," the child said, making a face of disappointment.

"Maybe not now. And eagles don't talk on the ground. They're afraid of being heard." Knowing he wasn't convinced, she went on. "Most people forgot what the eagles did for them, but not all of them. Those who remembered had the eagles' image sewn into their flag to show their thanks. Do you know who they were?"

The child looked at his sheets, thinking hard for a moment. "The Prussians?"

She nodded, smiling happily. "Ours ancestors."



Part of my book talks about how the German language came to be. This is something I literally just made up that I'm thinking of putting in my book, but I don't know how. xD

Anyways, the dragon is holding his hand out to the eagle to help him, and the eagle is holding the Prussian flag. Sadly, Prussia is no longer a country, but I am proud of my Prussian roots. D:

For those who don't know, Prussia was part of the Holy Roman Empire that was abolished during the world wars and picked apart by surrounding countries. It helped Germany grow strong as a nation, and a lot of the old Prussian territory is in modern-day Germany.

Simpley put, Prussians were the original Germans in a way.
